Is race still an issue in America?

The question I put in the title is so simple to answer. I am guessing majority of the people will say “yes” but I want to look in a different angle. As I was browsing I saw an interesting article in Daily Mail which was "White newborn babies set to become a minority in the U.S. 'next year'” I read the article and the only thing you can take from there is that the European ethnicity is endanger in United States. After I finished reading I said “so what, does it matter?”.

Isn’t America a country built on immigration? Why does it matter what race makes it up, whether it’s the Whites, Hispanic, Blacks or Asians? White people are the Immigrants in the USA, the same as Hispanics, Blacks etc. are we forgotten Native American newborn babies have been in the minority in the USA for some centuries.

Some people suggested the 2010 census fact book figures are nonsense, because still there is debate who is to be considered as white man, those people are arguing that half of the Hispanic or Latinos whatever you call them are whites, so how can whites be the minority in USA, but all this things are not facts, the fact is America is an immigration country no matter what race makes it up.
